How to Make an Indian-Style Sangria

Sangria is a refreshing and versatile drink that can be adapted to various flavors and ingredients. An Indian-style sangria combines the traditional Spanish beverage with bold Indian spices and fruits, creating a unique fusion that tantalizes the taste buds. Here’s a simple recipe to make your own Indian-style sangria at home.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of red wine (750 ml)
  • 1 cup of orange juice
  • 1/2 cup of brandy (optional)
  • 1/4 cup of sugar (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp of garam masala
  • 1-2 green cardamom pods, crushed
  • 1-2 sticks of cinnamon
  • 1 apple, diced
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 cup of sparkling soda or sparkling water
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish

Instructions

Step 1: In a large pitcher, combine the red wine, orange juice, and brandy if you’re using it. Stir well to mix the ingredients.

Step 2: Add the sugar, garam masala, crushed cardamom pods, and cinnamon sticks to the mixture. Stir again until the sugar is fully dissolved.

Step 3: Add the diced apple, sliced orange, and sliced lemon to the pitcher. These fruits will infuse the sangria with their flavors and make it visually appealing.

Step 4: Cover the pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 to 4 hours, or overnight if possible. This allows the flavors to meld together beautifully.

Step 5: Before serving, add the sparkling soda or sparkling water to the pitcher. This will add a refreshing fizz to the sangria.

Step 6: Serve the Indian-style sangria in glasses filled with ice. Garnish each glass with fresh mint leaves for a pop of color and flavor.

Tips for the Perfect Indian-Style Sangria

  • Experiment with different fruits based on the season. Mango, pomegranate, and berries make excellent additions.
  • For a sweeter sangria, increase the amount of sugar, or use flavored sparkling water.
  • If you prefer white wine, try this recipe using a dry white wine for a lighter version.
  • Serve with spicy Indian snacks like samosas or pakoras to complement the drink.

Indian-style sangria is perfect for gatherings, parties, or simply enjoying a relaxed evening at home. Its vibrant flavors and refreshing taste will surely impress your guests and elevate your drink menu. Cheers!
